Lightning Hold Their Own vs Raptors 905
Saturday, October 28, 2017 (London, ONTARIO) – The London Lightning used tough defence and a chip on their shoulder to get the win against the Toronto Raptors G-League affiliate Raptors 905 with a final score of 99 to 92.
The Lightning trailed after the first quarter 25 – 17 but that was all it took to get into the swing of things as a new team. The bolts controlled the boards and played lock down defence for the remainder of the game to pull out the win.
Ryan Anderson was hot from beyond the arch all night and finished with 28 points, going seven for 14 from three point land. He was happy with outcome, "I felt good. I would be lying if I said I didn't feel like we had something to prove as a league, as a team. We proved we can play with the best leagues in the world."
Head coach, Keith Vassell, echoed Andersons thoughts, "That felt fantastic. When you get a win, especially early in the season, and I am still feeling out the guys, seeing who is playing well together. I think that we have a lot of good moving parts, guys that came in played well."
Royce White finished the game with a double-double of 14 points and 10 assists. He was happy with the outcome overall but felt he could have done better. "I was a little rusty. It was uncharacteristic for me to miss that many shots in the paint. But I am happy that we gelled really well for the first time together as a new group and I am happy for Ryan. I knew he was going to come out with a laser focus and I knew I was going to try and play through him as much as I could."
The Lightning will head back into training camp to prepare for their regular season opponents. The next home game is an exhibition on Sunday November 12th at 2p.m. against 401 rivals the Windsor Express.
