Lightning Win Over the Edge

Lightning Win Over the Edge

Sunday, December 17, 2017 (London, ONTARIO) – The London Lightning and the St. John's Edge met for the third time already this season on Sunday afternoon. The Lightning pulled ahead in the second quarter and never looked back, winning 116-103.

The Lightning trailed after the first quarter 34 – 21 but the Bolts picked up the energy in the second. Head coach, Keith Vassell was pleased with the effort. "We came back in the second quarter and took back control of the game, especially defensively. [Charles] Hinkle and Carl [English] are fantastic players and we were able to at least keep them in check most of the game. But I feel we took our foot off the pedal in the fourth, we need to play four full quarters."

Kyle Johnson made his season debut and immediately impacted the game. Coach Vassell is pleased to have Johnson back. "Fantastic addition… You don't know what you are missing until you see it." Johnson came off the bench and scored 31 points along with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. He is happy to be back in London, "it feels good to be back, to get my legs under me and be back with the guys. I felt very comfortable out there today, and am happy we got the win."

Ryan Anderson also had a notable game, notching his first NBL career triple double with 14 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists. Anderson was focused on getting the whole team involved today, "It was about having confidence in my teammates, the last few games we have been struggling to hit shots. I just wanted to get my teammates shots, we have been working hard, we wanted to have fun and get the win today."

Marcus Capers and Garrett Williamson were also key pieces in the win today. Capers scores 18 points, with four rebounds and five assists, while Williamson added 22 points, five rebounds and four assists.

The next London Lightning home game is this Friday, December 22 at 7 p.m. at Budweiser Gardens against the Niagara River Lions. Tickets are available at the Budweiser Gardens Box Office or at www.lightningbasketball.ca
