Lightning Get Big Team Win Over River Lions

Friday, December 22, 2017(London, ON) – The London Lightning continue their strong team play and come away with a 118-109 win over the Niagara River Lions.

Head coach, Keith Vassell, is pleased to see the team find their groove. "I feel good, we were able to put two wins together against two good teams without a full roster. Definitely will take that win and go into Christmas."

Bryan Akingkube was hot off the bench early in the game, scoring 17 points in the first half in only nine minutes. Vassell knew the rookie was capable of having a break out night at any time. "He got in foul trouble early so I had to take him out. But he shows his ability all the time in practice and I am really proud of him that he was able to come out and step up."

Akingkube was eight of nine from the floor, scoring 21 points with five rebound in only 16 minutes of play. He was quick to point out the full team effort was key to winning. "We played together… we were swinging the ball really well, hitting the roll on the screens, making the extra pass and defensively we were helping each other. Put that all together and there is no way we can fail."

Garrett Williamson and Marcus Capers continue to be consistent at both ends of the floor and impact all parts of the game. Williamson was all over the stat sheet with 15 points, nine assists, and five rebounds. Capers recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds plus five assists. Ryan Anderson also recorded a double-double with 17 points and 16 rebounds along with eight assists.
