Lightning Outlast River Lions in OT

Wednesday, January 3, 2018 (London, ON) – The London Lightning and the Niagara River Lions needed overtime to decide their fifth meeting of the season. The Lightning came out on top 123-119 to improve to 8-5 on the season.

After a slow start in the first quarter the Lightning out score the River Lions 35-25 in the third lead by Doug Herring Jr. who collected 14 points in the frame alone, including two big threes in a row to give the bolts life. It was back and forth down the stretch of the fourth quarter. Niagara connected on free throws and lead by six points in the final minutes. Kirk Williams Jr. hit two back to back three's with under a minute left to tie the game at 112-112 and send the game into overtime.

The Lightning outlasted the River Lions in the extra frame to win the game and extend their winning streak to six games. Herring Jr. lead all Lightning scorers with 26 points, seven assists and five rebounds. Royce White added 23 points and nine assists while Ryan Anderson added 22 points and nine rebounds. Marcus Capers and Garrett Williamson added 16 a piece.

The London Lightning return home for two games this weekend at Budweiser Gardens. Friday, January 5th they host the KW Titans and Sunday, January 7th the Niagara River Lions return to London. Tickets are available at www.lightningbasketball.ca or the Budweiser Gardens Box Office.
