Lightning Welcome Ashton Smith

Wednesday, February 7, 2018 (London, ONTARIO) – The London Lightning have signed and activated Canadian, Ashton Smith.

Smith, a 6'2 guard from Scarborough, ON, played in the NBL for the Saint John Riptide, Mississauga Power and Orangeville (Brampton) A's from 2013 to 2015.  Smith has also spent time with the NBA-G League Raptors 905 and most recently was playing overseas in Germany.

Smith is looking forward to joining the Lightning. "Everybody knows about the winning culture here in London and how well the organization runs from top to bottom. I'm happy to be here and excited to get to work and help where I can on this journey to another championship."

Head coach, Keith Vassell, knows Smith will be a positive addition to the team. "Ashton gives us a tremendous point guard who plays with a higher motor on both ends of the floor. He is a great addition to our roster."

Owner-GM, Vito Frijia, echoed coach Vassell's thoughts, "Ashton is a Canadian guard who previously played for Brampton and was extremely versatile, quick and energetic. He is a complete player – on the offensive end and defensive end. We welcome him to the London Lightning family."

Smith expected to make his debut with the Lightning at their next home game, Thursday, February 8th as they host the Island Storm at seven P.M. at Budweiser Gardens. Tickets are available at www.lightningbasketball.ca or at the Budweiser Gardens Box Office.
