London Lightning Shine in Back-to-Back Victories Over Newfoundland Rogues
The London Lightning faced their fiercest challenge this season in a thrilling back-to-back matchup against the Newfoundland Rogues, highlighting a battle of strategy as Jerry Williams returned to his former team with winning on his mind.
Friday Night Showdown
Friday night’s game saw the Lightning trailing the Rogues by 10 points for much of the contest. However, a late surge led by none other than Chris Jones secured a dramatic 112-107 victory. Jones earned Player of the Game honors with an outstanding double-double performance.
Despite the victory, the game came at a cost. Joel Kindred suffered a broken nose, leaving the Lightning short-handed. The team also accumulated numerous fouls, leading to a suspension for star player Chris Jones—an obstacle that loomed large ahead of Saturday’s game.
Saturday Night Resilience
The Lightning entered Saturday’s matchup with a depleted bench and a tough start, scoring just 14 points in the first quarter compared to the Rogues’ 29. But London’s resilience shone through as they rallied back, taking the lead by halftime and maintaining control for the remainder of the game.
Veteran Billy White delivered a standout performance, scoring 30 points before fouling out, earning him Player of the Game honors and leading the Lightning to a decisive 100-90 victory.
A Turning Point
The back-to-back wins mark a turning point for the Lightning, who rebounded after back-to-back losses to the Sudbury 5. The team now feels their groove is back as they prepare for their next challenge.
Upcoming Game
The Lightning return to the court on Thursday, January 16th at Canada Life Place to take on the KW Titans.
