LONDON LIGHTNING SPLIT BACK-TO-BACK GAMES IN AN ACTION-PACKED WEEKEND
The London Lightning faced a grueling back-to-back schedule this weekend, coming out with mixed results.
Friday Night Win Against Pontiac Pharaohs
The Lightning took to their home court on Friday night to face the Pontiac Pharaohs, securing a commanding 121-107 victory. Leading the charge was veteran forward Billy White, who delivered a stellar performance with a double-double, recording 25 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists. White’s dominant play earned him Player of the Game honors, as the Lightning showcased their depth and teamwork to close out the game.
Saturday Night Thriller vs. Sudbury 5
On Saturday, the Lightning were back at Canada Life Place to take on the Sudbury 5 in a nail-biting double-overtime matchup. Despite a valiant effort, the Lightning fell just short, losing 128-129. Both teams fought fiercely, but the physical nature of the game took its toll. The Lightning’s Joel Kindred fouled out late in regulation, significantly impacting the team’s rotation.
Meanwhile, Sudbury’s JD Miller also fouled out, leaving the 5 without one of their key contributors. Additionally, three other players—Sudbury’s two starters who racked up five personal fouls each and the Lightning’s Corey Boyd—played cautiously down the stretch due to foul trouble.
Paul Parks led the Lightning with 26 points, delivering clutch shots to keep his team in the game, notably sinking the tying 3 point shot to force overtime. Corey Boyd contributed 24 points despite being hampered by foul concerns. However, the Lightning struggled to maintain rhythm during critical moments, with turnovers and missed opportunities in the second overtime proving costly.
Sudbury capitalized on the Lightning’s challenges, with balanced scoring and relentless energy throughout the game. The Lightning’s defensive efforts kept them in contention, but ultimately, a final bucket by the 5 sealed the victory.
Throughout the weekend, as usual the Lightning fans were electric, especially Saturday night you could feel the love in the arena as they roared for their team. We thank you Lightning fans for always delivering your best game.
The team is ready to regroup as they head off to Sudbury on Monday for their final match of 2024, to ring in the New Year they will be off to Newfoundland for a highly anticipated match up against the Rogue.
