London Lightning Drop Back-to-Back Games, Urged to Regroup for Playoff Push
The London Lightning endured a tough weekend, suffering consecutive losses to the Windsor Express and Jamestown Jackals despite strong efforts. With the playoff race tightening, the team must refocus heading into March to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Saturday’s home game at Canada Life Place, presented by Fanshawe College, drew an electric crowd of over 5,400 fans. The Lightning put up a fight against the Windsor Express, with nearly every player scoring in double digits. In the final seconds, Billy White had a chance to win it with a three-pointer, but the shot was released just 0.1 seconds too late, sealing a heartbreaking 108-106 loss.
The game wasn’t without controversy, as Windsor’s injured player, Tray Maddox, exchanged heated words with the scorekeepers, adding tension to the night.
On Sunday, the Lightning hit the road to face the Jamestown Jackals. The game remained a tight battle through three quarters, but the Jackals pulled away in the fourth, handling London a 119-105 defeat. With the playoffs looming, the Lightning need to regroup and refocus to get back on track. The talent is there, but consistency will be key as they look to bounce back in March.
The Lightning will now shift their focus to their next home game on March 1st, a rescheduled matchup from February 16th, in celebration of Black History Month. The game will honour the contributions of Black athletes and leaders while providing an opportunity for the team to bounce back in front of their home crowd. Fans are encouraged to pack Canada Life Place and show their support as the Lightning look to turn things around and reignite their playoff push.
